Bay of Fires Tours
Situated on the northeastern coast of Tasmania, the beautiful Bay of Fires extends magnificently from Binalong Bay to Eddystone Point. The area was named in 1773 by Captain Tobias Furneaux, who witnessed beach campfires lit by the Indigenous residents as he approached the shores. Today, the Bay is a stunning location with cobalt blue waters and white sanded beaches with a backdrop of ochre lichen covered granite cliffs.
This gorgeous area is now protected, with the southern section of the bay being a conservation area and the northern section being part of Mount William National Park. In 2009, the Bay of Fires was named as Lonely Planet’s ‘World’s Hottest Travel Destination’, which has increased the interest in this area and made it an absolute must-see for those travelling to Tasmania. Activities available to visitors include camping, bushwalking, birdwatching, snorkelling, scuba diving, beachcombing, sailing and other nature-related pursuits. During the warmer months, the area is resplendent in glorious colour due to the huge range of wildflowers, native banksias and orchids, while the crystal clear ocean, lagoons and inlets are full of bright corals, amazing sea life and hidden, underwater caves. Surrounding the Bay of Fires, quaint little villages and communities offer a warm welcome to guests, with top notch accommodation, amazing restaurants, cute little boutique stores and – of course – all of the modern amenities required for a great holiday. If you’re looking for some time out to immerse yourself in a beautiful, serene environment, add the Bay of Fires to your list!
